Unicorn

Today was the day she had been looking forward to this month. Little Susie quietly climbed down the stairs, glancing at her parent's bedroom door every once in a while to make sure they were still asleep.

She wore a happy grin, happy and elated to see her plan coming along nicely. She made sure to wake up earlier than them because she wanted this day to be special and to make up for all the times her parents were pulled away from work.

The house was quiet save for her soft padded footsteps and she entered the kitchen to begin her master plan.

An hour or so later, little Susie came out of the kitchen carrying a large tray that looked too heavy for her to carry. In it were a large stack of pancakes and two glasses full of orange juice. She was careful not to drop anything on the floor as she carried it to the stop of the stairs.

She set the tray on the floor and quietly turned the door knob, peeking inside the dark room. Her parents were still asleep and unaware of their daughter's activities. Susie picked up her tray and softly went inside.

"Happy mother's day!" She shouted happily as she walked towards her parent's bed. her mother stirred in her sleep while her father shifted onto his side.

"Wake up, mommy! Happy mother's day!" Her mother slowly blinked awake, and said sleepily.

"Susie? Why are you up so early? Let mommy get some more sleep, okay?"

"But mommy, I made breakfast for you and daddy because today is mother's day."

Her mother smiled, eyes closed. "That's very thoughtful of you dear but mommy's still a bit tired. You can go bother daddy if you want."

Her father made a noise of protest and even though he was asleep, his acute senses sensed his sleep was in danger.

Susie pouted sadly. "I worked so hard on this, you know mommy. I wanted to give you a special mother's day because I wanted to show how much I love you and daddy."

"Later, sweetie. I promise me and daddy will eat it later. For now, just let us rest a bit." Mommy's voice began to waiver, signifying sleep had covered her slowly.

Susie sighed in defeat. "Alright. You can eat these later then. Remember you promised!" Susie said loudly before going out the room and closingthe door with a click.

The room was blessedly quiet once again.

"Do you think she'll really do it?" Her husband's voice spoke sleepily in the silent room as he turned and spooned against her, pulling her close. She sighed, leaning against the warmth of her husband's body, half awake and half asleep.

"I'm not going to be surprise if she did. After all, her birthday is coming next month and she has been hinting for it these past few weeks." She mumbled.

"A unicorn. Good luck finding that one." He chuckled amusingly. Neither of them reply after that, finally drifting off to sleep.
